Karel van het Reve

Karel van het Reve (1921-1999) was a Slavist, writer and translator. From 1957 to 1983 he was professor of Slavic literature at the University of Leiden, with a break in 1967-1968 when he served as Moscow correspondent for the Dutch daily newspaper Het Parool.

Non-Fiction

He was a productive essayist and a newspaper and radio columnist, as well as the author of two novels. He made his name with his History of Russian Literature from St. Vladimir to Anton Chekhov and in 1981 he was awarded the P.C. Hooft Prize for his essays.
