Waldo Heilbron

Born and raised in Suriname, Waldo Heilbron (1936-2009) was a sociologist at the University of Amsterdam and an active member of the Our Suriname Society. He helped establish NiNsee (the National Institute for the Study of Dutch Slavery and Its Legacy) and the national slavery monument. His personal library is a foundational part of The Black Archives collection, a unique historical archive of Black emancipation movements and underexposed perspectives in the Netherlands.
