The Dutch Foundation for Literature welcomes author Bart Meuleman (Turnhout, 1965) to Amsterdam, where he will be staying as writer in residence until the end of September.

Bart Meuleman has previously written poetry and plays, but nowadays he focuses on prose. Recently, he published De jongste zoon (essayistic novel, 2014), Hoe mijn vader werd verwekt (novel, 2018), and Wij zijn nooit alleen (stories and essays, 2021). His work is autobiographical in nature and is published by Querido.

During his residency in Amsterdam, Meuleman will mainly revise the manuscript of Licht (Light) his upcoming novel. Licht is about the life of a Flemish artist in the 1940s.

Each year, the Flemish literary organization Passa Porta and the Dutch Foundation for Literature exchange an author for a residency opportunity in Belgium and the Netherlands. Passa Porta selects a Flemish author for a residency in Amsterdam, and the Dutch Foundation for Literature selects a Dutch author for a residency in Brussels. Flemish authors can express their interest in a stay in Brussels directly to Passa Porta.

Previous guests have included Lies Van Gasse, Jeroen Olyslaegers, Maud Vanhauwaert, Tom Struyf, Roderik Six, Peter Terrin, Anne Provoost, Saskia de Coster, Max Greyson, and Rudi Meulemans.
