Dirk Vis new writer-in-residence at NIAS

Writer and poet Dirk Vis is selected for the writer-in-residence fellowship at The Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study (NIAS), on behalf of the Dutch Foundation for Literature. During the fellowship Dirk Vis will work on a project combining historical, biological and anthropological sources with insights from indigenous worldviews and artistic research.

Dirk Vis (b. 1981) is a writer and poet. He studied at the Rietveld Academy and the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam. Vis published the novella Het reality-essay (De Gids, 2017), Research for People Who (Think They) Would Rather Create (Onomatopee, 2021), and the novel Paren of de kunst van de slaapkamer (Atlas Contact, 2022). Vis' work has been translated into English and German.

The Writer-in-Residence programme is part of a longstanding collaboration between NIAS and the Dutch Foundation for Literature. The idea behind the program is that writers and scholars from the humanities, social sciences and other disciplines can benefit from each other’s work offering them and intellectual haven and the chance to work in a diverse community of international scholars.
